Troy’s Challenging 8 weeks and Thunder.

Troy's Tips - Sick as a dogHi Guys,

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while but the past 2 months have been  challenging for me.

I suppose I just need to look at this as a learning experience.

Had some health issues to take care of and also got a 3 week flu from hell.
Really knocked my socks off let me tell you.

My blog went down because I broke something..oops.
I really need to hire that webmaster..lol.

Apart from that, my PC has blown up twice in 8 weeks.

I mean I don’t care who you are, that is just damn frustrating.

About 6 weeks ago I had to replace the hard drive due to some windows error and
lost all my data.
We also had some lightning storms and I suspect, but cannot be sure that the surge
protector I had did not work.
It was old though. (Bad Troy, slap on the wrist)

Luckily I had my files backed up on a portable back up drive.

So I put a new hard drive in and proceeded to load all my drivers back on the HD
and 5 years worth of programs etc.

If anyone has done this then you know it takes time to track down all your drivers,
programs, serial numbers, passwords and files etc.

Was happy with all that until one night about 2 weeks ago we had a very violent storm
and all I can say is my UPS power supply and surge protector did not work.
Why? umm, probably Because I forgot to plug the damn PC power cable back into the
surge protector power supply.
I plugged it into the main power outlet by accident instead of plugging it into the surge protector.

So, that storm had some pretty bad ass lightning strikes that night and all I can say is
my PC went to PC heaven.
I can only assume it was a lightning strike as the power went out for a few hours that night.
I was not a happy camper let me tell you.

So after getting a new PC power supply, motherboard, RAM, DVD rom drive and a new CPU,
I was up and running again as of Monday this week.

So as I am writing this, I am once again loading all my drivers, programs, serial numbers, passwords and files etc.

So, what is the moral of this story?

  1. Back up your PC files, passwords, serial numbers etc.
  2. Plug the damn power cables into the surge protector
  3. When you hear thunder at 2 am in the morning don’t trust a surge protector,
you get out of bed and unplug your PC from the power outlet, no matter how warm and
snug you are under the blankets
  4. Get a flu shot or carry around 3 cans of disinfectant spray

Anyway, I will have my eBook on here next week about choosing domain names.

Stay tuned.

Regards

Troy
